The governance of our people was in place and could be witnessed through ceremonies and individual people had their roles within this structure. Great orators had a significant role within this system and there were different sorts of orators within each community. I had the privilege to see these great orators and they were experts in the political connections through the marriages that took place. When deaths occurred these orators could literally trace the families from up and down the coast. It was their role to know all these things that were done through the ceremonies.
