The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) employs more than 150 Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in small and medium-sized communities across Vancouver Island.

Our dedicated staff delivers a wide range of services to 14 Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations, including health care, educational support, child and family services, community news reporting…and much more.

Clinical Nurse Leader

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council is seeking a permanent, full-time Clinical Nurse Leader to provide professional nursing guidance and support to nurses working in the Southern NTC Region. Based in Port Alberni, this position will support and guide nurses to deliver professional, ethical, culturally safe, team based, and responsible care based on the Nuu-chah-nulth Nursing framework.

Senior Early Years Outreach Worker

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council’s Child & Youth Department is seeking a permanent, full-time Senior Early Years Outreach Worker (SEYOW) based in Port Alberni. This position supports the development of healthy infants, children, and pre-teen (aged 0-12) through supporting women, men and families during preconception, pregnancy, the early years and beyond. The SEYOW acknowledges and encourages connection with the traditional teachings, stories and rituals related to pregnancy and early childhood that have been long held by Nuu-chah-nulth. This position is responsible to provide support, coordinate Early Years Outreach Workers (EYOW) activities and to support the Manager of Child and Youth Services. Travel (vehicle, boat, and airplane) is required for this position.

Harm Reduction Outreach Nurse

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) is seeking a Harm Reduction Outreach Nurse to provide an advanced level of expertise and guidance to Nuu-chah-nulth persons struggling with addictions, at risk of harm or require healing from substance use. This position will provide direct nursing support with a focus on the activity of RN/RPN prescribing of opiate agonist treatment and addressing the toxic drug crisis. This position is based out of the NTC Southern Region office (Port Alberni), and requires travel (by vehicle, gravel roads, boat, float plane and helicopter) into 14 communities.

Quu’asa Cultural Support Worker

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council/Teechuklt (Mental Health Program) is seeking a term (to March 31, 2025), full-time Quu’asa Cultural Support Worker to provide culturally based support to Southern Region and Northern Region individuals, families and communities. Based out of Port Alberni, this position would be best suited for someone who has a desire to provide mental wellness and cultural healing in a culturally safe environment.

Clinical Counsellor (Gold River)

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC), Teechuktl (Mental Health) Program is seeking a permanent, full-time Teechuktl Clinical Counsellor to provide individual counselling for individuals or families in NTC’s Northern Region (Gold River). Based out of the NTC’s Gold River office, this position would best suit someone who can provide counselling services that promotes individual and community wellness through a balance of Quu’asa (First Nation people) values and trauma-based clinical methods. This position requires travel into remote communities (including on gravel road).

Chaputs (Canoe) Program Coordinator

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) is seeking a qualified professional with skipper experience to serve as the Chaputs (Canoe) Program Coordinator with Usma Family & Child Services (F&CS). This permanent, full-time position is responsible for programming and delivery of activities and scheduling for the program. This position will lead in the delivery of Nuu-chah-nulth based teachings specific to the chaputs. The Chaputs Program Coordinator will work alongside Usma F&CS staff, the 14 Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, Elders, and others to promote program opportunities. Based out of Port Alberni, this position reports to the Director of Usma F&CS.

Manager of Nursing Services

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council is seeking a permanent, full-time Manager of Nursing Services to provide leadership in all aspects of the Nursing Services Department. Based out of Port Alberni, this position has a unique opportunity of applying Indigenous and mainstream approaches with the innovative Nuu-chah-nulth nursing framework.

C6 Social Worker (Child Protection)

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) Usma Family and Child Services is seeking three (3) experienced, C6 delegated Social Workers to fill permanent, full-time positions. Based out of Port Alberni, these positions will have full C6 caseload responsibilities. Travel (by vehicle, boat, and airplane, depending on caseload) is required for this position. Usma Nuu-chah-nulth Family and Child Services works on the traditional and unceded territories of the 14 Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, supporting and collaborating with community to develop appropriate responses to child safety concerns and build upon community support services.

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) Nursing Department is seeking a part-time (.4
FTE) First Nation Advocate Nurse (FNAN). This specialized position will assist Indigenous
patients with their hospitalization. The FNAN will contribute to the delivery of culturally
safe care for Indigenous patients and their families through their interactions with
physicians and admission/discharge planners. This part-time position is based out of Port
Alberni and will work in collaboration with NTC Nursing in ensuring quality health care
services to all Indigenous patients.

Resource Social Worker (Out of Care)

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) Usma Family and Child Services (F&CS) is seeking an experienced, delegated Social Worker to fill a permanent, full-time Out of Care Resource Social Worker position. Based at the Port Alberni Usma F&CS office, this social worker will be part of the Usma Resource Team, and will work collaboratively with other social workers, Nations, and families. This is a C6 Delegation preferred position. Travel (by vehicle, boat, and airplane, depending on caseload) is required for this position. Usma F&CS works on the traditional and unceded territories of the 14 Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, supporting and collaborating with community to develop appropriate responses to child safety concerns and build upon community support services.
