First Nation Advocate Nurse Services

The First Nations Advocate Nurse (FNAN) is available to act as a connection between Nuu-chah-nulth-aht and hospital staff. The FNAN can:

  • Discuss health care issues or concerns with you
  • Advocate on your behalf at the hospital
  • Help you find a cultural or spiritual healer
  • Work with the hospital on discharge planning
  • Work with you to create a health and wellness plan
  • Help you with medical travel requirements
  • Assist hospital staff with cultural awareness
  • Act as a liaison between hospital and community

Aboriginal Liaison Nurses are now available in Alert Bay, Campbell River, Comox Valley, Duncan/Cowichan, Mount Waddington, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Saanich, Tofino and Victoria.
