Community Health Promotion

Nuu-chah-nulth Community Health Promotion

The goal of the Community Health Program is to strengthen the connections between the Nuu-chah-nulth-aht, resulting in an increased capacity within communities to work together towards their common goals – to make their communities healthy.

Our approach is to support health and well-being that can integrate with and complement health service delivery.

We are committed to educating community members on the basics of healthy lifestyle choices so that they can impart that knowledge and those new skills, attitudes and changed behaviours to their families and communities. This is necessary to contribute to their personal development and to the improvement of their family diet and nutritional well-being.

Food choices, lifestyles and our environment will affect the health and well-being of the Nuu-chah-nulth-aht.

It is important to be aware that the foods you choose to eat can contribute to either disease prevention or to chronic diseases and premature death.

To help Nuu-chah-nulth individuals, families and communities understand and make healthy choices our Community Health Promotion Worker offers information sessions on a wide variety of topics including health, disease and nutrition.

Individuals can also work one-on-one with our Community Health Promotion Worker to develop an Individual Wellness Plan to help manage a chronic health issue, meet specific goals or just get healthy and stay healthy!
