Usma Nuu-chah-nulth Family & Child Services

Usma works with families, Nuu-chah-nulth Nations, community partners and caregivers to support and ensure the health and safety of Nuu-chah-nulth children and youth.

Usma means "precious one" in the Nuu-chah-nulth language.

Usma Nuu-chah-nulth Family & Child Services is a delegated Aboriginal agency; this means that child protection services for Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations is provided by the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC).

What We Do

Child Safety

Our Child Safety teams are responsible for investigating reports of child abuse and neglect, and ensuring the safety of Nuu-chah-nulth children and youth residing in the Nations and Port Alberni area.

Guardianship Team

Our Guardianship team ensures the safety and support for children and youth in continuing care.

Resource Team

Our Family Wellness Team is responsible for promoting and supporting a child’s connections with his or her extended family and culture while in care.
